Why we started Recovery Laboratories.
A founder note on the gap between supplement labels and what is in the pouch, and why we built differently.
We did not start Recovery Laboratories because the world needed another supplement company. We started it because the gap between what supplement labels say and what is actually inside the pouch is too wide, and recovery is too important to leave to that gap.
The problem we kept running into
If you look at the supplement category honestly, you find a lot of label commitments that do not survive lab work. Independent testing has repeatedly turned up products with substituted ingredients, under-delivered actives, and contaminants that should never have passed any reasonable QC gate. We saw the gap up close. We did not want to ship into it.
The decision to build differently
From day one we chose a harder path. Physician-formulated products, in-house manufacturing in Auburn, California, and lot-level traceability through CAROL (Beta), our in-house lab inventory and production system. Each finished pouch traces back to a specific batch, the input lots that batch consumed, the raw-material lots those came from, and the suppliers who provided them. None of this lives in a folder somewhere. It lives in the system that produced the pouch in the first place.
What it means today
It means every ingredient arrives with its supplier’s certificate of analysis, and we keep each one on file. It means we work with a small number of qualified suppliers over the long term, not whoever has the best price this quarter. It means we wrote our own documentation system because the off-the-shelf options did not carry the chain end to end. The standards are not theoretical. They show up in every pouch we ship.
Where we are going
The formulas you see today are the start, not the finish. CAROL is in active development. New surfaces and capabilities will continue to come online from this foundation. The point is not to be the loudest brand in the category. The point is to be the one whose paper trail still holds up when somebody asks the hardest question.
Educational, not medical advice. Your surgeon and care team know your procedure and your history, so their instructions come first. Talk to them before you start, stop, or change any supplement.
